Do you ever wonder who is talking about you or your blog? One neat trick I learned when I first started blogging was to set up a Google Alert for my blog. All you do is go to Google Alerts and set up a search term in the box to the right of the screen. For mine, I typed in Mommy Cracked. You can also type in ANYTHING you want to know about when it is talked about on the internet. Then you choose how often you want to be alerted…I chose once a day. Then type in your email and whenever someone has typed something about your blog, your name, or anything else you set up an alert for, you will be emailed with a link to the post. Pretty neat, huh?
Now, I sometimes get alerts for things that have “mommy” AND “crack” in them at the same time that have nothing to do with my blog, but nine times out of ten, it’s something pertaining to me and it’s a cool way to connect with people when you had no idea they were posting about you.
Stalker-ish? Ehh…maybe. But I like being in the know. I can’t be the only nosey one, right? For more great Works For Me Wednesday posts, click here and add your own if you want. It’s being hosted by Don’t Try This At Home this week because Shannon is in Africa.

Hmmm… sounds interesting. I’ll try to learn this Google Alert thingy.
I do this too – only thing is I redirected it to an email address that is not my main one. So when I remember once every 2 weeks, there are like 50 emails!
Oy!
LOL
Interesting – I like the idea of directing it to an address I don’t use very often. I’ll give it a try and see what happens.
I love hearing new tips about managing blogs and the like.

Your blog name is so funny – I love it!
Thanks for stopping by…
Thanks for that advice…im rather computer illiterate at times..thats really cool.
Good Morning Mandy,
Wow, I’m so glad you told us about this. I will have to try and sign up for this. I do have a feeling sometimes that someone is blogging about me. I read your previous post about the Valentine’s Party. Our girls just brought home a note about theirs on Monday. They used to give us at least a week or so notice. Boy, I guess they think we are made out of money. LOL. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.
Love & Hugs,
Karen H.
You’re right. It’s important to know what other people are saying! I sort of wish that I had more unique words in my blog title. Real Life could be anything!
Great tip. Is there anything you can’t do on google?
Thanks for this tip. I’m gonna give it a try. I can’t imagine anyone would be talking about me, but I guess I’ll find out.
What fun! I set up an alert for myself to see what happens.
Hey, that’s cool! Thanks for sharing.

Great tip. I use a similar feature on another site. I’m glad that I’m not the only one out there who “wants to be in the know” about her blog.
Great tip.
I had no idea that was available – just signed up!
I love google alerts, too. I first started using it to make sure people weren’t stealing my copyrighted articles from the sites I write for for, but I have also started using it to see where people talk about me, too. LOL Yeah, you’re not the only one who wants to know.
Here’s a tip for you too – On posts that you want to check on to make sure no one is stealing and posting your writing, type in a phrase from somewhere in your post.
I get google alerts for my pen name/screen name, my post titles, my article titles, phrases, etc. – yeah, I go a bit whacko with it, but I’ve found my work stolen before through using google alerts, so I find it to be very useful.
Thanks for the tip. It looks like it could be fun…and addictive!
Handy tip ~ thanX
Hmmmmmm. Interesting!
Cool! I’m going to try this. Thanks!!
I just went and set mine up fun! You can also go to technorati and type in your blog to see what’s link to it. That’s helpful as well.
That’s so neat I think I’ll be setting up a google alert too!!!
Thanks for the tip. I knew there was a google alert but did not know what it would be used for.
Well, isn’t that handy!
great idea! thanks for the tip
pretty cool!!!
good idea!
I don’t think I’d want to know, in case someone wasn’t saying something nice. And sometimes the nice stuff can be worse. The first tie someone stumbled my blog, she caclled me “witty and intelligent” and I about fainted. Oh the pressure to be witty and intelligent! I reverted to Valley Girl for several days until I got over the shock.
Great idea!
awesome! i’m a little late responding to this post, but i love your blog! thanks for stopping by mine! i don’t often get the chance to post, but when i do, i take pride in it.
I just found this the other week, I think it is great except that I arrived home from vacation with tons of emails alerting me to “saving money” articles… I guess I should have turned it off for the weekend!
Great tips!!!
Linda
I’ve been wondering what the “alerts” was. Thanks! I’m going to go try it out.
This is one of my favorite things. Sooooo cool. Great info.
