As the founder of Embrace—a thoughtfully designed womenswear and maternity brand focused on everyday essentials made from natural, plant-based fabrics—Claire Mercieca knows a thing or two about quality, comfort, and cutting through the noise. A lawyer in what she calls her “past life,” Claire now pours her energy into creating the kind of wardrobe staples she actually wants to wear (read: flattering, functional, and breastfeeding-friendly).

When she’s not growing her business, Claire is deep in the juggle of life with two energetic boys—Luc (5) and Benoît (2.5)—sneaking in a yoga session or run when she can, and always on the lookout for products that simplify her day or spark a little joy. Her Mother Essentials list is a reflection of that practical-meets-intentional philosophy, filled with skincare staples, kid gear that earns its keep, her new Lounge Bra (designed for postpartum boobs), and a few chic luxuries that help her feel human—even on the most chaotic days.

Supergoop! Mineral Unseen Sunscreen. “My mom has always been devoted to sunscreen, and she has instilled the same discipline in me. I started wearing sunscreen daily at 18, and while I can’t say for sure how much of a difference it’s made, I’m not about to risk finding out. This mineral, fragrance-free sunscreen from Supergoop! is the one I keep coming back to. I’ve tested countless brands, but this is the only one that’s kept dark spots at bay.” Mineral Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40, $40, Supergoop.

Nécessaire Multi-Peptide Body Lotion. “I’ve never been great about moisturizing, but this lotion changed that. It’s fragrance-free, eczema-friendly, and somehow feels downright luxurious every time I use it. Now it’s a nightly ritual I look forward to, and even my mother-in-law has given it her stamp of approval.” Multi-Peptide Body Lotion, $52, Nécessaire.

Medik8 Vitamin C Serum. “I’ve been on the hunt for something to zap the dullness from my skin—and this little bottle did just that. It’s lightweight, gentle, and still feels like a treat to use.” C-Tetra Vitamin C Radiance Serum, $49, Medik8.

SK-II Facial Mask. “Last one on skincare, I promise. Facial masks are a staple in Asian culture, and this one truly delivers. The glow is instant (I’m not exaggerating), and it’s hands-down the best mask I’ve ever tried—and I’ve tried plenty.” Pitera Facial Treatment Mask, $25.50, SK-II.

James Perse Linen Shorts. “I haven’t worn any other shorts this past summer.” Lightweight Linen Pleated Short, $195, James Perse.

Still Here Cool Jeans. “These feel like pajamas…but somehow still look like you made an effort. I receive compliments every single time I wear them.” Cool Jeans, $285, Still Here.

Want Les Essentials Tote Bag. “Can we talk about how hard it is to find a truly beautiful leather tote? This one nails it—minimalistic, lightweight, and roomy enough for real life.” Logan Tote, $695, Want Les Essentiels.

Embrace Ribbed Bra Top. “I may be biased, but I believe we made the perfect camisole with a built-in bra (because, let’s face it, no one likes wearing a strapless bra). This is now my most-worn piece. I wear it for everything—from yoga to brunch.” Ribbed Bra Top, $70, Embrace.

Embrace Lounge Bra. “We made a bra that *finally* understands postpartum boobs. Trust me when I say you won’t find a more comfortable bra than this.” The Lounge Bra, $60, Embrace.

Yohola Cork Yoga Mat. “This mat’s soft enough for savasana, grippy enough for hot yoga. Plus, it’s made with plant-based foam by a small business I love to support.” Original Cork Yoga Mat, $139, Yolohayoga.

Asics Gel-Kayano 32 Shoes. “I’ve been running since high school, and I’m convinced Asics makes the best running shoes. Pro tip: leave a thumb’s width (roughly half an inch) of space when you size up—your feet will thank you at mile ten.” Gel-Kayano 32 Sneakers, $165, Asics.

Babygold Multi-Initial Necklace. “I never thought I would wear an initial anything, but this initial necklace is pretty and dainty without veering cheesy. I have my husband’s and kids’ initials on them, and it works with every outfit.” 14K Gold Asymmetrical Multi-Initial Necklace, $235, Babygold.

Hanna Andersson French Terry Sweatpants & PJs. “I bought these for my firstborn, and three years later my second is wearing the exact same pieces. They really are Hanna-me-down quality. I especially love the oversized fit and thick organic cotton quality.” French Terry Sweatpants, $16, Hanna Andersson.

Parade Tank Romper. “Soft organic cotton, simple, well-priced, and so cute. We own four, and they’re on constant repeat. I’m keeping my boys in rompers for as long as I can get away with it.” Organic Tank Romper, $19, Parade.

Veer All-Terrain Cruiser. “When we were expecting our second, we debated between a double stroller and a wagon. I’m so glad we went with this wagon. It’s basically our family SUV. We use it every weekend, and the boys ride, snack, and chat while we haul them around. Plus, it handles any terrain (snow, sand, grass) we throw at it.” Veer All-Terrain Cruiser, $699, Crate + Kids.

LunchBots Stainless Steel Bento. “Finding a kid-proof, 100% stainless steel lunchbox is harder than it should be. We pack our son’s school lunch in this. He mostly refuses the food but never breaks the box. We take that as a win.” LunchBots Stainless Steal Bento Box, $24.95, Amazon.

Greens Steel Cups. “After the third broken glass (we love our shatter-resistant glasses from Fable but they did not survive our children), we swapped the kids’ cups for these. So far, so good.” Stainless Steel Cups (4-Pack), $25, Amazon.

Magna-Tiles. “The only toy that’s lasted years of play and is still going strong in our playroom today.” Magna-Tiles Classic 100 Piece Set, $119.99, Amazon.

Anthropologie Glass Tumbler. “I swear water tastes better from a cute glass. When I’m working I tend to forget to hydrate—this one makes it easier to remember.” Juice Glass Tumbler with Lid, $22, Anthropologie.

Sisters, creative partners, and powerhouse moms, Sabrina and Eunice Moyle are the colorful minds behind Hello!Lucky, the playful brand known for its witty greeting cards, charming children’s books, and feel-good music. Based in the Bay Area, the dynamic duo has built a vibrant world rooted in creativity, connection, and joy—values that shine through in both their professional work and their parenting styles.

Between juggling businesses and raising five kids collectively, Sabrina (writer) and Eunice (illustrator) still find time to dance, craft, cook, write, and explore new passions (like animation and shuffle dancing!). Below, the multi-talented sisters share the Mother Essentials that are fueling their everyday lives—one fun, functional, and joy-sparking item at a time.

Sabrina Moyle, Mother to James, 15, Alex, 15, and William 12

Field Work NA Beers and Tonics. “As a mom, I often crave a refreshing treat at the end of the day. Fieldwork’s Hop Water and Supertonics taste like beer or a cocktail—with none of the sugar or alcohol!” FieldworkBeverage.com

Great Cookbooks. “Alison Roman’s Dining In and Melissa Clark’s Dinner: Changing the Game are my two go-tos for easy weeknight meals and salads. Snackable Bakes and Snacking Cakes are my kids’ favorite for whipping up simple, yummy treats.”

Imogen Heap’s Happy Song. “This is the most brilliant thing to hit children’s music in recent memory. Innovative, catchy, and not-at-all annoying, I have this on repeat on my playlist.” Happy Song via Spotify.

Adidas Gazelles. “For style and function, there’s nothing I love more than jetting around town in my all-white Adidas Gazelles.” Gazelle Sneaker, $100, Adidas.

Stylish Reading Glasses. “I may be getting older, but I don’t want to look like an old lady! My favorites are Jockamo from Caddis Eye Appliances.” Jockamo Frames, $85, Caddis.

Mindful Nature-Focused Walks. “Before I get up, I like to take a mindful walk around the block with my dog, focusing on nature—nothing in my earphones, just paying attention to anything that grows. It’s a great way to ground and get ready for the day.”

Casetify. “Nothing is worse than a cracked screen! I love the Casetify designs by Tess Smith Roberts and Bodil Jane—sturdy and stylish!” Dog Park Case by Tess Smith-Roberts, $54, Casetify. Cheetah Paradise Pink Case by Bodil Jane, $70, Casetify.

Clayroom. “My 12-year-old and I recently took wheel-throwing classes together and had a blast! With locations around the Bay Area, they offer pottery classes exclusively for kids, too.” ClayroomSF.com

Flower Arranging. “Arranging flowers is a form of play. I love picking up inexpensive but gorgeous blooms from Trader Joe’s and arranging them using these simple techniques.”

DamnFine Pizza. “This neighborhood spot is my family’s favorite—and the back patio is a great spot to get together for a girls’ night out.” DamnFineCo.com

Substack. “I love connecting with fellow writers, moms, and creatives here—it helps me stay inspired, informed, and grounded. A couple of favorites are Kyra’s Modern Femininity and Motherhood, Erin’s (Un)Popular Parent, and Irena’s The Curmudgeon’s Guide to College Admissions.”

The Mosaic Project. “I’ve been involved with Mosaic since my kids were in pre-school, and as teens, they are now youth leaders in the program. With excellent music and lessons in empathy, assertiveness, and conflict resolutions, this little Oakland non-profit has been a big part of our family and inspired my books and music.” MosaicProject.org

Eunice Moyle, Mother to Jude, 15 and Imogen, 12

Dancing. “My current obsession is shuffle dancing with Elena and Klara at Shuffle House—it’s an incredible cardio workout and is just super fun. I also love dancing with Devi Hadsell at Can’t Stop the Drop. Her teaching style is super cool and yet accessible. Dancing is fantastic for learning to turn off your inner judgemental voice—you can’t keep the choreo in your head if you’re judging yourself; it’s my version of meditation.”

AKT Natural Deodorant. “This is one of my favorite new discoveries—a side effect of shuffle dancing is being absolutely drenched in sweat and AKT is the first natural deodorant I’ve found that is rock solid all day long. Beautiful scents (Hayfever is my fave) and gorgeous packaging as well.” AKTLondon.com

Typology R13 Shampoo. “This shampoo is my latest fave. Don’t know what magic they put in there but it does wonders!” R13 Fortifying Shampoo, $30, Typology.

Tandem Pilates. “I’ve just recently started adding pilates to my fitness routine (shuffling requires some serious core strength!) and I absolutely love it. Tandem Pilates is a gorgeous little studio in Oakland with fantastic teachers and (most importantly) a schedule that actually works for a busy mom.” TandemPilates.com

Sewing. “I’m big into making things from scratch (baguettes, sweaters, french daybed mattresses, you name it, I’ve probably at least tried to do it) and sewing is one of the handiest skills I’ve picked up. I make a lot of my own clothes these days thanks to YouTube tutorials, independent pattern designers like Friday Pattern Company and online sewing classes with Lynda Maynard.”

Animation. “One of our latest explorations is children’s animations to go along with our books and Sabrina’s original songs. It’s so much fun learning to bring our characters to life. I’ve been teaching myself to do animation with Procreate Dreams, which is a fantastic, super intuitive animation program on the iPad (with a little help from Alex Grigg, who has a great introduction to Procreate Dreams course). You can find our first animation to the song ‘Yum 2, 3’ on our YouTube channel and all of Sabrina’s wonderful songs for kids (animations to come!) on Spotify.”

Good Dye Young. “Lately I’ve been loving encouraging my daughter’s creative approach to fashion. Our latest experiment has been with fun hair color and in doing so I discovered the brand Good Dye Young. The colors are vibrant and fabulous and surprisingly gentle and conditioning on the hair.” GoodDyeYoung.com

Anything Klein Blue. “Since a trip to Morocco, I’ve been obsessed with this shade of electric blue. Like this liquid eyeliner I’ve been coveting from Violette_Fr.” Yeux Paint, $32, Violette_Fr.

Latham Thomas is no stranger to the MOTHER community. A beloved voice in maternal wellness and a longtime friend of the brand, she’s graced the digital pages of MOTHER many times and even joined us on The MOTHER Podcast to share her deep wisdom around birth, parenting, and self-care. As the founder of Mama Glow, Latham has spent decades supporting women through every stage of the motherhood journey—while raising a son of her own (Fulano, 22, recently graduated from Berklee College of Music).

Her latest project, the Peaceful Parenting audiobook, is a beautiful extension of her life’s work—a deeply intentional collection of guided meditations designed to help new and expecting parents find calm, confidence, and connection in the midst of it all. Like everything Latham creates, it’s grounded in love, ritual, and soul.

In her Mother Essentials list, she shares the things that support her own daily rhythm—from healing herbs and sacred skincare to plant medicine, sound therapy, and go-to parenting tools. A reflection of her holistic lifestyle and nurturing spirit, this list is both grounding and inspiring—just like Latham herself.

Nécessaire Olibanum Body Lotion. “This lotion is my favorite and when I apply it after the shower I mix it with my Ancestral Whisper Mom and Baby Oil—this creates the perfect emollient mix that allows me to moisturize my skin and it smells incredible.” The Body Lotion, $41.60, Nécessaire.

Peaceful Parenting Audiobook. “Peaceful Parenting is a transformative audio companion for anyone navigating the emotional landscapes of pregnancy, postpartum, and parenthood. This original audiobook includes 20 guided meditations curated to support self-care, reduce stress, and restore harmony in your home. With themes like bonding with baby, sleep support, breathwork, and parental confidence, this album meets parents where they are—with intention, care, and ease. Infused with evidence-based mindfulness techniques, somatic practices, and soul-soothing affirmations, Peaceful Parenting is designed to ground and uplift parents in every stage of the journey. I have always wanted to create a resource like this for families, this program is my gift to parents.” Peaceful Parenting: Mindful Meditations for Pregnancy, New Parenthood, and Promoting Harmony at Home, $19.99, Simon & Schuster.

Saje Ultrasonic Diffuser. “This is my go‑to aromatherapy device—it helps me create calm, stress‑soothing environments in my home. I have these in every room and I use a variety of blends to support my wellbeing and set the mood for the space.” Aroma Om Deluxe, $166, Saje.

WTHN Acupuncture. “I swear by acupuncture and go twice a month for maintenance. It’s something that helps to keep me grounded. I go to WTHN, which is a wellness center in Williamsburg where the healers provide excellent care. They have a sound machine playing in each room and you can opt for guided meditations, I usually just listen to the waves.” WTHN.com

Raspberry & Nettle Overnight Infusion. “Raspberry leaf as a uterine tonic during pregnancy; nettle tea to build iron and support blood health. I blend these herbs together and make an overnight tonic that I sip on throughout the day.” MountainRoseHerbs.com

Japanese Kokodema Plant. “At home, I surround myself with dozens of plants—they help me feel grounded and energetically rebooted throughout the day. I have lots of big plants but really appreciate my tiny wonders like my Japanese Kokodema, a type of bonsai using moss balls. The Moss & Green in Williamsburg specializes in the creation of original Kokedama arrangements.” TheMossAndGreen.com

Perelel Women’s Daily Health Trio & Triple Support Protein Powder. “I love Perelel vitamins because they are formulated by a team of expert OB/GYNs to support women through every stage of their hormonal journey. I have been taking their supplements for years now and I appreciate how the clean ingredients and packaging align with my holistic approach to wellness and my personal goals for reproductive health.” Triple-Support Protein, $38, Perelel.

Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen. “We call this Black Girl sunscreen because it leaves no film on my dark skin and can also act as a primer. It is my go-to for sun protection.” Unseen Sunscreen SPF 50, $30, Supergoop.

Saie Glowy Super Gel Illuminator. “I often wear a full face of makeup for public appearances, but when I am doing a light fresh face look—which is my daily go-to—I use Saie’s Glowy Super Gel Illuminator to prime my skin and bring out my natural sheen and tone. I can disguise my lack of sleep or stress with this product, which says a lot!” Glowy Super Gel Illuminator, $29, Saje.

Podcast Therapy. “My 3 podcasts of choice that I have been diving into on the regular are Ratchet & Respectable, Therapy for Black Girls, and The Mama’s Den. With Ratchet & Respectable, Demetria Lucas gives pop culture updates, in Therapy for Black Girls, Dr. Joy provides a powerful lens for us to examine our mental health, and with The Mama’s Den, I listen to the crew and feel like I am in the kitchen catching up with old friends.”

Alex Mill Jumpsuit. “I love Alex Mill, it’s my uniform staple, particularly for when I would attend births. They make a utility jumpsuit that I wear and have in multiple colors. You can merchandise it up, I just belt it and add a sweater and scarf and I am ready for anything.” Standard Zip Jumpsuit in Herringbone, $250, Alex Mill.

Matchaful’s Earth Glow. “Matchaful is a female-founded brand that makes exceptional matcha-based drinks. The Earth Glow iced is my fave because it has spirulina and tastes heavenly. I usually grab one on my way to The Soft Space.” Earth Glow, $9.50, Matchaful.

Acre Vegan Katsu Bento Box & Anori French Fries. “Acre is a Japanese cafe in Greenpoint and I often go there for lunch. They make these vegan potato veggie and mushroom balls that they then bread and lightly fry and serve with their katsu sauce. They also make these shoe string french fries that are covered in nori flakes, which are my absolute favorite.” AcreNYC.com

Okra Water. “I grew up having okra in stews and today I really enjoy adding it to fresh salads and making okra water in the summer time. You simply cut the okra into pieces and place them into fresh water, it’s similar to aloe water in consistency and is so good for supporting gut health. I also pickle okra so I can eat it throughout the year.”

Mama Glow & Aetna Shared Decision Making Toolkit. “This digital toolkit helps you prepare for your pregnancy and childbirth journey and equips you with valuable resources and tools like a birth preferences worksheet, communication tools, and more to make informed choices and ensure your pregnancy, labor, and birth experience aligns with your desires and values.” MamaGlow.com/YourBirth

The Wilderness by Angela Flournoy. “This is a new must-read novel from critically acclaimed writer Angela Flournoy. It centers Black women on a 25 year journey of friendship and sisterhood. The cover art is the work of iconic multidisciplinary artist Mickalene Thomas.” The Wilderness, $27, Barnes & Noble.

Agua de Florida. “Florida Water was used for spiritual practices ancestrally and is used today for purification, ritual offerings, attracting love and new beginnings. I keep a bowl of water near the threshold of my doorway where my altar sits and the bowl contains a mixture of fresh water and Agua de Florida. I do this to draw energy down into the water and purify the space. I also add it to my cleaning supplies and use it to clean the floors as well.” FloridaWater.com

Koala Eco Cleaning Products. “I was introduced to this brand through the founders and fell in love with their ethos, the packaging, and the scent of the products. Koala Eco are the official cleaning supplies for The Soft Space and the only thing I use at home too. My top 3 products are the Kitchen Cleaner, The Bathroom Cleaner, and The Floor Cleaner.” KoalaEco.com

Moon Juice Raw Cookie Dough Chocolate Cookies. “When I go to LA, my first stop is Moon Juice. In addition to picking up my green juices, I grab their incredible cookies from the fridge case. It’s thin cookie dough covered in dark chocolate and slightly sweet. I usually pack a bunch to bring back home too.” MoonJuice.com

Momcozy Portable Baby Sound Machine. “I love this sound machine because it has soothing sounds from nature, warm light that helps you ease into your nighttime routine, and is a perfect tool for parents to use to support and promote healthy sleep. This is a must-have for those who travel and may be sensitive to unfamiliar sounds.” Portable Baby Sound Machine, $24.99, Momcozy.

Mother Earth has always been an inspiration for Carla Wingett. After working for ten years as a wedding florist, Carla began to look for a solution to the waste inherent in fresh flowers and found as much beauty and versatility in dried flowers. Soon after, she founded Idlewild Floral, a boutique floral design company based in California that works exclusively—and beautifully—with dried and preserved flowers. As of this month, she’s helping spread the gospel of dried floral design with her first-ever book, Flora Nouveaux: Not Your Grandma’s Dried Flowers. And that’s not all she’s currently birthing. She’s expecting her fifth child in September—baby Shepard will join Harper (15), Hayes (6), and step-siblings June (14) and Shannon (17) to complete the brood. Below, the eclectic mama—who worked as an artist, organic farmer, landscape designer, and interior stylist before entering the floral world—shares her current Mother Essentials.

Beachwood Baby. “I love that I can wear these dresses during pregnancy and after. They’re all made with lightweight linen, and so comfortable it’s all I want to wear lately.” The Deia Dress, $198, Beachwood Baby.

Fable Rune Golden Algae Face Cream. “My skin already runs dry, especially during pregnancy, and this cream has saved me. Clean and safe for baby, it also smells incredible and feels so light and refreshing, I close my eyes and pretend I’m in a spa each time I put it on.” Agave & Golden Algae Face Cream, $55, Fable Rune.

Fable Book of Runes. “I’ve been waking up before the rest of the house each morning to get a little time to myself in the mornings, and I love pulling a rune (kind of like a tarot card) and using the guiding wisdom as a prompt for journaling.” The Fable Book of Runes, $60, Fable Rune.

Inner Now App. “I’ve recently added a guided meditation to my nightly routine—usually in the bath where I’m guaranteed at least 15-20 minutes of uninterrupted time. I love Deepak Chopra’s meditations but there are so many wonderful teachers and themes to choose from for whatever mood you’re feeling.” InnerNow App via Apple.

Bobo Choses. “The prints on everything from this company bring me so much joy, I love putting my kids in their clothes. They even have women’s pieces and things my teenage daughters will wear too.” Snail Onesie, $32, Bobo Choses.

Walker Goods Backpack. “I love the tiny Tommy Pack, I’m currently using is as a diaper bag, but all of their luggage is so cute and I love that our kids can each pick out their own colors.” Tommy Pack, $84, Walker Goods.

Good Energy by Casey Means. “I love this book so much that I’ve bought a copy for most of my close friends. It’s really empowered me to improve my health with simple to follow, actionable advice. Casey has traced many diseases to how well we care for our bodies on a cellular level, and gives us the tools we need to prevent them at the root.” Good Energy: The Surprising Connection Between Metabolism and Limitless Health, $27, Barnes & Noble.

Among the Flowers Flora Bath Cubes. “Handmade in California by a small company that uses only natural ingredients, I love to soak with these bath cubes knowing I’m doing something good for my skin. Not only do they smell amazing, they’re moisturizing too.” Bath Cubes, $40, Among The Flowers.

Perelel Cellular Hydration Powder. “Staying hydrated during pregnancy has been a challenge, so I’ve been starting each morning with a glass of this, which is packed with electrolytes, collagen, and hyaluronic acid to help keep my skin healthy too.” Cellular Hydration Powder, $46.50, Perelel.

Pipette Baby Wash. “Clean skincare that doesn’t make my kid’s sensitive skin break out, and it smells so good I use it too.” Baby Shampoo + Wash, $11.99, Pipette.

Loam Candles. “Handmade in Los Angeles with clean ingredients, I love how long-burning these are and how wonderful they smell. I’ve been lighting mine in the morning while I journal before the kids get up.” Full Bloom, $33, Loam.

Flora Nouveaux. “This book is my other baby, something I’ve been dreaming of putting together for the 15 years I’ve been a florist. It’s finally come to life—my love letter to dried florals, which have completely changed the way I design with flowers.” Flora Nouveaux, $27.95, Idlewild Floral.

Preserved Flowers. “I started out as a traditional fresh florist, but once I discovered preserved flowers I never looked back. It’s almost magical that real flowers can be preserved to last basically forever, and keep such vibrant colors and soft textures. Needless to say, they’re all over my house and bring me so much happiness.” Dried Flower Bunch, $24, Idlewild Floral.

My Bookclub. “I’m a part of a bookclub with four other mamas, and having this legitimate reason to get together at least once a month and connect with some of my favorite ladies without the interruption of our families has been essential to keeping my sanity.”

Subscription Groceries & CSA Veggie Box. “I’ve been loving Thrive Market for groceries, it has saved me so many trips to the grocery store. For veggies, I’m subscribed to a local CSA veggie box. Everything is so fresh and it forces me to get creative in the kitchen because it’s always a surprise what will be inside each week.” ThriveMarket.com.

It’s a beautiful thing to grow up beside a fellow mama—especially when you’re raising babies and businesses at the same time. This is just one of the reasons we’ve long admired Andrea Faulkner Williams, co-founder and “head mama” at Tubby Todd Bath—who makes supporting other moms a priority and with whom we had the pleasure of sharing a 10-year business milestone with last year (we even jointly cut a cake to mark the occasion!).

Alongside her husband, the San Diego-dwelling mom of four (Josie, 14, Walker, 11, James, 9, and Andy, 6), founded Tubby Todd Bath in 2014—after years of looking for natural products that provided solutions for her little ones’ sensitive skin and deciding to create her own. Now a decade-plus in, they’ve rolled out countless products—from their best-selling All Over Ointment to fun seasonal drops and collabs. The latest is the Sweet Apple Fall Collection, just in time for all those back-to-school, autumnal feels.

Below, the busy mama and bath lover fills us in on her Mother Essentials of the moment—including Tubby Todd faves, comfy-cool fashion picks, and frequent phone calls with another MOTHER fave. Enjoy!

Altra Running Shoes. “Apparently a wide toe box for my chubby toes to breathe is what I’ve always needed to be able to hike and run for miles. These running shoes are game changers.” Women’s Torin 8, $150, Zappos.

Blue Agave Sriracha. “Our current go-to condiment for the whole family is made with clean ingredients and is yummy on tacos, eggs, sandwiches–everything.” Classic Sriracha Multipack, $30, Yellow Bird Foods.

Lioness Head in the Clouds Cardigan. “This is the first thing I have ever purchased in multiple colors. It is the perfect sweater. Period.” Head in the Clouds Cardigan, $69, Revolve.

Staud Dolce One Piece. “This suit has been my go-to this year for trips with the family, my husband, and friends. Perfectly sexy but keeps everything in place.” Staud Dolce One Piece, $215, Shopbop.

Camp Hollow Cake Toppers. “I recently discovered these heirloom cake toppers in a boutique gift shop. They are precious and make each birthday special.” Cake Topper, $40, Camp Hollow.

Armra Colostrum. “I am so obsessed with Armra. My family is very sick of hearing about it, but this has become the only supplement I take. I have seen an incredible increase in my immunity when I am consistent, not to mention my hair and skin.” Armra Colostrum Powder (2-Pack), $85.99, Amazon.

Tubby Todd Sweet Apple. “Our newest limited edition fragrance is the best way to bring fall into the bathroom. I love switching up our bathtime scents with the season. It makes ushering in each new season even more exciting and special.” Sweet Apple Fall Collection, $82, Tubby Todd.

Loeffler Randall Devon Slingback Sandals. “These will go down as my fave shoes ever. Comfortable, chic, and can be worn to the office, school pickup, and dinner out.” Devon Red Moiré Slingback Sandal, $295, Loeffler Randall.

Long Hikes With Girlfriends. “Approximately 4-5 times a week, I hit the trails behind my home or at the beach with a friend. We walk or run out the stress from work, kids, and our personal lives. These hikes are a truly sacred time in my week.”

Daily Phone Calls with Elle Rowley. “Every morning after dropping kids at school, I talk with my longtime bestie, Elle Rowley, for the 20-minute drive to work. Sometimes we discuss deep spiritual concerns and other times we strategize about our businesses. But many days we laugh about the crazy stuff our kids said the day before or the many appointments we have missed that week.”

Fresh Sends Flowers. “I have used them for every birthday, condolence, and thank you gift for the last year for loved ones–I’m obsessed with their punchy messages and packaging.” The Send, $79, Fresh Sends.

Tubby Todd Regulars Bundle. “When someone asks where they should start with Tubby Todd products, the answer is always The Regulars! It is a 3-step skincare solution that keeps the entire family clean and moisturized. We have one in every bathroom in our home.” The Regulars Bundle, $49, Tubby Todd.

A Facial from Shop Good. “Shop Good is a tightly curated collection of clean beauty products that I trust, and is my favorite local spot for an in-person facial. If you aren’t local to San Diego, you can purchase an At-Home Facial that is just as delightful.” At-Home Facial Packages, $115, Shop Good.

Walker Family Goods States Duffel Bag. “Six years ago, I gifted each of my kids a WFG bag for Easter. Now, when we pack for a trip, each of my kids gets out their own colored duffel and packs our trips. It has made them feel independent and responsible at a young age.” Duffel Bag, $88, Walker Family.

The Alter Ego Effect. “This book has taught me how to unlock another level of focus at home and at work. For me, it has taken the glimpses of strength I used to see throughout the day and helped me channel more consistent work. A must read.” The Alter Ego Effect: The Power of Secret Identities to Transform Your Life, $17.39, Amazon and Bookshop.

Line A Day Five Year Journal. “This journal was recommended to me by another mom. I still do occasional long form journaling, but most days all I have in me is a line at the end of the day. Even on the hardest days as a mom, it feels good to write down just one line of something that I want to always remember.” 5 Year Journal: One Line a Day, $28.95, Amazon.

For entrepreneur and Brooklyn-based mother of three Hana Getachew, summer comes as both a challenge and a relief. “It can be chaotic with kids,” she says. “The rituals and routine of school/daycare abruptly stop.” As the founder of Bolé Road Textiles—a brand that merges Hana’s love of handwoven fabrics from her native Ethiopia and a career in interior design—she’s also juggling the newly relaxed schedules of her kids with her work schedule. This includes toasting the 10-year-anniversary of her company and launching a stunning collaboration with The Met. So, how is she “doing it all” (or at least appearing to do so)? Below, she shares her Mother Essentials of the moment—from time spent alone and at the lake, her favorite breathwork app, and other creativity-boosting tools.

Water Color Pencils + Markers. “I made a commitment to sketch more this year. So far I’ve drawn/painted my studio layout and started my recent textile collection ideas on paper. It’s a real treat and takes me back to my art class days in high school and college.” Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils Water-Soluble Color Pencil Set, $45.71, Amazon. Tombow Dual Brush Pens and Sets, $23.50, Amazon.

Kpoikpoi Placemats + Napkins. “I love our new table linens we designed for the Met—and I love the textile which inspired them. I am patiently waiting for our restock so I can keep a set for my home.” Kpoikpoi Placemat Set, $95, Bolé Road Textiles. Kpoikpoi Napkin Set via Bolé Road Textiles.

Eagle Creek Pack-It Set. “In the summer, we’re often zipping around to Long Island or Upstate. I’ve used these packers for over eight years to keep my kids’ clothes organized. I also use the medium sized bag as my diaper bag for both of my girls (7 years apart)!” Pack-It Starter Set, $77, Eagle Creek.

Breathwrk App. “I had a tough start to the year. My friend Terry, who lives in Amsterdam, recommended this app. It’s been a lifesaver. My schedule has recently shifted so I haven’t been able to carve out time to meditate or do other self-care, but I can always use this app, even when I’m with my children or on-the-go.” Breathwrk.com

Time Alone. “The summer time can be chaotic with kids. The rituals and routine of school/daycare abruptly stop. This can sometimes be a good thing. I try to have one weekend alone every few weeks (thanks mom and dad!) so I can reset and recalibrate.”

Time at the Lake. “I always wanted to be the kind of person who has a summer thing, like a destination or hobby. I finally found one two years ago: I love spending time lakeside. We have a spot we usually go, I even started paddle boarding. It’s my favorite way to spend a summer day with my family.”

Kingston Farmers Market. “The Kingston Farmers Market is a staple of our Upstate visit. I love the flowers from The River Garden, the local produce, and the food from the local restaurants are amazing. There’s often live music, which the kids love. It can’t be beat.” KingstomFarmersMarket.org

Book Series. “My older daughter is skipping camp this year, a first. She’s a voracious reader, so having big kid book series on deck has been essential. She’s read Harry Potter and Percy Jackson so far. I welcome any other suggestions! (Update: No camp summer failed—we’re starting Monday, lol).Harry Potter: The Complete Collection, $68.99, Amazon and Bookshop. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Set, $41,80, Bookshop and Amazon.

Sebene’s Substack: Remind Me To Love. “Being a business owner can be tough, and at times I tend to get bogged down with negative thought patterns or emotions. I find Sebene’s Substack to be so reaffirming and uplifting.” Remind Me To Love Substsack by Sebene Selassie.

Summer. “Summertime can feel like a miracle in the northeast. We had such a grueling winter and in no time at all, there’s warmth, verdant trees, wild colors, it’s amazing.”

Sunday Mornings in the City. “I hate crowds and lines, which are somewhat unavoidable in NYC…except on Sunday mornings. If you get up early enough on, you can see a different side of the city. Last Sunday my 8-year-old and I caught a matinee in the Lower East Side at 9:30 a.m., had ice cream at 11, and were home for the rest of the day by noon. That’s my kind of day.”

Hormone Replacement Therapy. “I got incredibly sick last winter, and unfortunately, had constant bouts of a mystery illness for almost 7 months. My youngest had just turned one and I had spoken to a few other mom friends that had unexplained physical and emotional challenges while their babies were under 2. After dozens of doctor’s visits, I got a diagnosis of perimenopause. (Very on trend…but I couldn’t believe it). I started HRT, and instantly felt better (thank you Trust Women’s Health Care)!”

Oakland-based artist Carissa Potter Carlson is one busy lady. Not only is she constantly making artwork and delightful products, writing deep thoughts for her Substack, and interviewing fellow deep thinkers on her Instagram live, she’s also hosting art shows, raising her 5-year-old daughter, and writing books. Her latest title, written alongside Vera Kachouh, is called Breathe Through It: An Interactive Guide to Ease Your Anxiety Through Meditation, Visualization, and Breathwork.

Created for stressful, mind-racing times like these, the book (Carissa’s fourth) encourages readers to get back in touch with their life source—their breath—in order to evoke a sense of calm. This comes through in simple exercises and calm-down hacks that readers can easily incorporate into their busy lives (exercises take from 1 minute to 1 hour).

Below, Carissa shares the other favorite hacks—both products and practices—that are currently getting her through her packed days.

To read more about Carissa and take a peek into her colorful home, check out her MOTHER Stories profile from 2022.

AG1. “Okay, I didn’t want to be that person. The one who sings the praises of a green powder like it’s a miracle. But here I am. I’ve been taking AG1 for over a year now and—confession—I haven’t had a single sinus infection since. No antibiotics! They’re not paying me to say this. In fact, I almost quit it recently to save money. And then I thought, ‘Do I really want to risk it?’ Nope. I stayed loyal.” AG1 Pouch, $79.99, AG1.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. “When Margaret was born, her life expectancy was 30. Today, she’s 5—and it’s 65. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is changing everything. They’re not just extending lives, they’re rewriting futures. Ours included.” CFF.org.

Bellicon. “After a brutal hospital stay with Margaret—when she was so sick and doctors told her she had to jump every day—I started bouncing too. It’s now my morning nervous system reset, lung-clearer, and joy-inducer. Honestly? It’s fun. Like kid-on-a-trampoline, flying-through-the-air fun. I’m never going back.” Bellicon Fitness Rebounder, $749, Amazon.

Nuuly. “I’m 42 and clothes are…complicated. My body’s changing and shopping feels like gambling with my self-esteem. Enter Nuuly: the no-strings-attached fashion fling. Six funky, fresh pieces every month. I try weird stuff. I take risks. I don’t worry about spills or tears. It’s freedom in a box.” Nully.com.

Moleskine. “I am that person. The one who swears by one type of notebook: extra-large, plain Moleskine. No lines, no grid, no exceptions. It’s not just a notebook—it’s my brain in book form. I cannot function without it. Ever.” Moleskine Classic XL Notebook, $11.90, Amazon.

Cray-Pas. “Oil pastels: messy, unruly, glorious. I’m learning to love them not despite their chaos but because of it. They force me to surrender control and embrace the raw, imperfect beauty of whatever shows up on the page.” SAKURA Cray-Pas, $21.59, Amazon.

Harklinikken. “My hair’s thinning and I care—maybe more than I’d like to admit. Enter Harklinikken. I’m doing the drops, the routines. I want to keep my hair. Do you have a full head of hair? I’m low-key jealous.” Hair Gain Extract, $88, Harklinikken.

Neti Pot. “I’m back on my neti pot game. A daily nasal rinse? Yes. It’s my tiny, unglamorous ritual to stay healthy. Satisfying in a weird way.” Ceramic Neti Pot, $10.95, Amazon.

The Mother Code by Ruthie Ackerman. “Reading The Mother Code felt like sitting across from a soul-friend who just gets what it means to mother. Not just children—but yourself.” The Mother Code: My Story of Love, Loss, and the Myths That Shape Us, $27.90, Bookshop and Amazon.

Julia Rothman’s Figure Drawing Class. “There’s something sacred about figure drawing—slow, steady observation. Julia Rothman makes art feel like community. Her work reminds me that creativity is a collective experience, and I dream of building something like that here in the Bay.” TheFigureAssembly.com.

Hidden Brain (Podcast). “It’s my weekly brain snack. Hidden Brain never misses.” HiddenBrain.org.

Williamstown Theatre Festival. “Every year I try to go. It’s theater in the wild, out of my comfort zone, full of risk and magic. Like summer camp for my grown-up soul. It nourishes my art-school-kid.” WTFestival.org.

Milk Teeth. “Mix, match, and pattern play. I love the whimsy, the softness, the why not? energy of it all.” ShopMilkTeeth.com.

The Conscious Parent by Dr. Shefali. “This book cracked something open in me. It reframed my rage, my expectations, and helped me re-parent myself so I could show up for Margaret—not as a perfect mom, but as her mom. Whoever she wants to be, I want to meet her there.” The Conscious Parent: Transforming Ourselves, Empowering Our Children, $20.41, Bookshop and Amazon.

Curtis Sittenfeld Books. “Books for anxious women who overthink everything, especially past relationships, while living quietly underwhelming present-day lives. In other words: my genre.” Show Don’t Tell: Stories, $26.04, Bookshop and Amazon.

Alongside her husband Philip Schneider, she welcomed her twins—Aya and Ohm—making headlines as a first-time mom at 48 and describing her journey into motherhood as “the most extraordinary thing in the world.” Now deep in toddler-mom life, she’s also been named Chief Innovative Officer of HealthyBaby, which figures into her consciously curated list of Mother Essentials, below!

HealthyBaby EWG Verified Diapers. “These are the only diapers I trust because they have a real certification that creates a new standard within the diaper category.” Monthly Diaper Subscription, $87.50, HealthyBaby.

Madewell Jeans. “My lifelong ride or die jeans!” The Balloon Jean, $148, Madewell.

Nuna Car Seats. “I couldn’t believe how hard it was choosing the next stage of car seats when the babies’ outgrew their infant stage seats. After a TON of research, we went with the Nuna Revv seats and they are wonderful.” Nuna Revv Carseat, $650, Nuna.

Biking. “Living in the Pacific Northwest is such a treat, especially in the summer. We love getting on the trails and backroads with our electric Rad bikes with the twins riding in their Thule seats on the back.” Thule Yepp 2 Maxi Rack Mount Stroller, $229.99, Target

Oura Ring. “I love tracking not only my sleep activity and physical activity but also how my body recovers and responds to stress. I particularly love my Oura ring because it tailors my activity goal based on how my body is recovering and, as we know, every day is different and should be treated as such.” Oura Ring, $349, Oura Ring.

HealthyBaby Gentle Nose and Face Wipes. “These EWG verified wipes use a saline solution to break down mucus and they’re the only wipes I’ve tried that don’t irritate my babies’ precious skin!” Gentle Nose & Face Wipes, $12, HealthyBaby.

Eminence Organics Sun Defense Minerals. “I love everything Eminence, but their sun defense line is a must for every day.” Sun Defense Minerals, $58, Dermstore.

Millsie Vegan Cheese. “This small Canada-based company found the secret recipe for vegan cheese that tastes even better than the real thing. Thankfully we’re close to the border and can get our fix!” millsie.com

Bush Acres Bench. “We found this incredible family-driven, women-owned company that makes kid furniture and made a bench so the twins can put their own shoes on. It’s such a simple thing that brings them such joy in being independent and having their own designated spot to do so.” MONTY Bench, $199, Bush Acres.

Four Reasons Dry Shampoo. “The most natural dry shampoo I’ve found that actually works, great for those days you just can’t fit a hair wash in.” Four Reasons Sensitive Dry Shampoo, $26, No Nothing.

Central Milling Co. “I’ve been making my own sourdough bread for a couple years now, as it’s so much healthier and nutritious. But I’ve recently started milling my own flour and it’s been a game changer! Central Milling Flour is also organic, which is a must, for grains especially.” CentralMilling.com
