Mother Essentials: Latham Thomas
Written by Katie Hintz-Zambrano
Latham Thomas is no stranger to the MOTHER community. A beloved voice in maternal wellness and a longtime friend of the brand, she’s graced the digital pages of MOTHER many times and even joined us on The MOTHER Podcast to share her deep wisdom around birth, parenting, and self-care. As the founder of Mama Glow, Latham has spent decades supporting women through every stage of the motherhood journey—while raising a son of her own (Fulano, 22, recently graduated from Berklee College of Music).
Her latest project, the Peaceful Parenting audiobook, is a beautiful extension of her life’s work—a deeply intentional collection of guided meditations designed to help new and expecting parents find calm, confidence, and connection in the midst of it all. Like everything Latham creates, it’s grounded in love, ritual, and soul.
In her Mother Essentials list, she shares the things that support her own daily rhythm—from healing herbs and sacred skincare to plant medicine, sound therapy, and go-to parenting tools. A reflection of her holistic lifestyle and nurturing spirit, this list is both grounding and inspiring—just like Latham herself.
Nécessaire Olibanum Body Lotion. “This lotion is my favorite and when I apply it after the shower I mix it with my Ancestral Whisper Mom and Baby Oil—this creates the perfect emollient mix that allows me to moisturize my skin and it smells incredible.” The Body Lotion, $41.60, Nécessaire.
Peaceful Parenting Audiobook. “Peaceful Parenting is a transformative audio companion for anyone navigating the emotional landscapes of pregnancy, postpartum, and parenthood. This original audiobook includes 20 guided meditations curated to support self-care, reduce stress, and restore harmony in your home. With themes like bonding with baby, sleep support, breathwork, and parental confidence, this album meets parents where they are—with intention, care, and ease. Infused with evidence-based mindfulness techniques, somatic practices, and soul-soothing affirmations, Peaceful Parenting is designed to ground and uplift parents in every stage of the journey. I have always wanted to create a resource like this for families, this program is my gift to parents.” Peaceful Parenting: Mindful Meditations for Pregnancy, New Parenthood, and Promoting Harmony at Home, $19.99, Simon & Schuster.
Saje Ultrasonic Diffuser. “This is my go‑to aromatherapy device—it helps me create calm, stress‑soothing environments in my home. I have these in every room and I use a variety of blends to support my wellbeing and set the mood for the space.” Aroma Om Deluxe, $166, Saje.
WTHN Acupuncture. “I swear by acupuncture and go twice a month for maintenance. It’s something that helps to keep me grounded. I go to WTHN, which is a wellness center in Williamsburg where the healers provide excellent care. They have a sound machine playing in each room and you can opt for guided meditations, I usually just listen to the waves.” WTHN.com
Raspberry & Nettle Overnight Infusion. “Raspberry leaf as a uterine tonic during pregnancy; nettle tea to build iron and support blood health. I blend these herbs together and make an overnight tonic that I sip on throughout the day.” MountainRoseHerbs.com
Japanese Kokodema Plant. “At home, I surround myself with dozens of plants—they help me feel grounded and energetically rebooted throughout the day. I have lots of big plants but really appreciate my tiny wonders like my Japanese Kokodema, a type of bonsai using moss balls. The Moss & Green in Williamsburg specializes in the creation of original Kokedama arrangements.” TheMossAndGreen.com
Perelel Women’s Daily Health Trio & Triple Support Protein Powder. “I love Perelel vitamins because they are formulated by a team of expert OB/GYNs to support women through every stage of their hormonal journey. I have been taking their supplements for years now and I appreciate how the clean ingredients and packaging align with my holistic approach to wellness and my personal goals for reproductive health.” Triple-Support Protein, $38, Perelel.

Saie Glowy Super Gel Illuminator. “I often wear a full face of makeup for public appearances, but when I am doing a light fresh face look—which is my daily go-to—I use Saie’s Glowy Super Gel Illuminator to prime my skin and bring out my natural sheen and tone. I can disguise my lack of sleep or stress with this product, which says a lot!” Glowy Super Gel Illuminator, $29, Saje.
Podcast Therapy. “My 3 podcasts of choice that I have been diving into on the regular are Ratchet & Respectable, Therapy for Black Girls, and The Mama’s Den. With Ratchet & Respectable, Demetria Lucas gives pop culture updates, in Therapy for Black Girls, Dr. Joy provides a powerful lens for us to examine our mental health, and with The Mama’s Den, I listen to the crew and feel like I am in the kitchen catching up with old friends.”
Alex Mill Jumpsuit. “I love Alex Mill, it’s my uniform staple, particularly for when I would attend births. They make a utility jumpsuit that I wear and have in multiple colors. Matchaful’s Earth Glow. “Matchaful is a female-founded brand that makes exceptional matcha-based drinks. The Earth Glow iced is my fave because it has spirulina and tastes heavenly. I usually grab one on my way to The Soft Space.” Earth Glow, $9.50, Matchaful.
Acre Vegan Katsu Bento Box & Anori French Fries. “Acre is a Japanese cafe in Greenpoint and I often go there for lunch. They also make these shoe string french fries that are covered in nori flakes, which are my absolute favorite.” AcreNYC.com
Okra Water. “I grew up having okra in stews and today I really enjoy adding it to fresh salads and making okra water in the summer time. I also pickle okra so I can eat it throughout the year.”

The cover art is the work of iconic multidisciplinary artist Mickalene Thomas.” The Wilderness, $27, Barnes & Noble.
Agua de Florida. “Florida Water was used for spiritual practices ancestrally and is used today for purification, ritual offerings, attracting love and new beginnings. I keep a bowl of water near the threshold of my doorway where my altar sits and the bowl contains a mixture of fresh water and Agua de Florida.
